PROCEDURES OF THE FACE AND NECK

Lip Augmentation

The primary indications for lip augmentation are aging and a patient’s desire for an adjustment of
facial proportion. As a person ages, the lips lose their fullness. The goal of lip augmentation is to create attractive, pouty lips. By using Dr. Coleman’s technique of fat grafting, he is able to increase the surface area of the lip. The changes that occur with the aging of the lower lip are dramatic. Along with the decrease in volume of the lower lip, wrinkling of the upper lip is almost always much worse. Restoring lip fullness through structural fat grafting will result in a return of a more youthful appearance. Dr. Coleman has a specific technique that acknowledges that the lip has definite contours that must be respected and enhanced in order to produce an aesthetically appealing change. Dr. Coleman uses fat grafting to achieve the proper shape and volume.

Brow, Upper Eyelids & Temples

A definite fullness of the brow, upper eyelid, and the temple region is essential for a healthy and sensual appearance. Fullness characterizes the young brow, cheek, and temple. As the fullness of youth disappears, the structures underneath emerge. In the upper face, it is the shape of the skull and the rims around the eyes. The blood vessels are no longer hidden by fullness and become more visible. The muscles of facial expressions are more visible because the youthful fullness no longer impedes their intrinsic tone. This creates a frowning or scowling appearance in many older people. The eyebrow descends with loss of fullness from the forehead, temple, and brow. As fullness disappears from the upper eyelid and brow, their eyes may become more deep set and skeletal. In others, the lack of fullness results in an empty sac of skin hanging where the fullness once was present. With Dr. Coleman’s structural fat grafting technique, he is able to restore the brow, upper eyelids, and temples to more youthful and healthy proportions.

Chin and Jawline

A sculpted, well contoured jawline is the hallmark of a youthful appearance. Actors, models, and athletes are admired for their sharply defined jawlines. It is the loss of the fullness in the jawline and chin that heralds the first signs of aging. As the underlying fullness is reduced, the face deflates. The skin remains the same size, but without the underlying fullness and support, the emptied skin drapes around the underlying structures of the face. Structural fat grafting using Dr. Coleman’s LipoStructure technique can play a significant role in reversing these aging changes. Through structural fat grafting, the jawline and chin can be restructured to strengthen its appearance. By using structural fat grafting Dr. Coleman can restore fullness between the chin and the fat of the jowl, thereby changing facial proportion to project a more cleanly sculpted profile.

Nasolabial Folds / Marionette Grooves

Older patients and younger patients object to the expressions that seem to be painted in the fold and lines on their faces. The nasal labial folds and marionette grooves convey powerful emotions. Aging can generate negative and fixed changes in facial expression. As the face ages, it loses its fullness associated with youth. As the skin around the mouth loses its fullness, the unsupported skin sinks into fold, wrinkles, and creases. As these folds become more pronounced, unintentional emotional expressions can become fixed on the face. It has been Dr. Coleman's experience, that with structural fat grafting, he can soften the nasal labial folds back to a younger state. What Dr. Coleman studies from the patients old photographs, is not the existence of the folds, but their depth and prominence and how they affect and alter ones facial expression. The key to the fat grafting to the nasal labial folds and marionette grooves is in the placement over an area to add support to the facial structures. At no point is fat intentionally grafted in only a single crease.

Lower Eyelid & Cheek

LipoStructure to the cheek and lower eyelid can restore fullness, soften wrinkles and crow’s feet, decreases pore size and lighten lower eyelid darkness. A further indication for fat grafting to the cheeks is adjustment of facial proportions. This is most often seen in a younger person who desires more angular cheeks, but it can also be someone who has atrophy associated with acne scarring or aging. This technique can also be useful for disguising obvious silicone implants, minimizing the appearance of bulging eyes, correction of facial lypodystrophy and congenital deformities.

Neck

A full, taunt neck is one of the signs of youth and beauty. With age subdermal fullness disappears and the skin texture gradually deteriorates, leaving behind unsupported, crepy skin. When structural fullness is added to the neck, it provides underlying support to the skin to restore a more youthfull fullness. Recontouring of the neck with structural fat can provide further enhancement by disguising prominent neck cartilages.

ABOUT THE CONSULTATION

Our consultation is designed to facilitate good communication, which we believe is the key to making successful choices. As a patient, you will spend a considerable amount of time with Dr. Coleman and/or Dr. Saboeiro; as well as with office staff preparing and planning for your procedure. The initial consultation consisits of two visits. Prior to your first appointment, you have some homework to do. Your assignment is to bring with you images of yourself, preferably not smiling, of when you were younger (20-30 years of age); as well as images from magazines of someone whom you find aesthetically pleasing. This is to aid in analyzing the shape and dimensions of the face and body that you desire to achieve.

When you come in for your initial consultation, you will receive a very informative education. This education explains Dr. Coleman’s LipoStructure technique, the ways he approaches aging & rejuvenation, shows comparisons of pre and post procedure results, as well as explains post procedural care. Next you will meet with our nurse and she will go over your cosmetic and medical history with you. Finally, you will have numerous photos taken of you at varying angles and lighting, which you will go over with Dr. Coleman at your second consultation.

The second consultation is the most important, since it is the appointment where you and Dr. Coleman develop a detailed plan for your procedure. It is at this appointment where you will view the photographs taken at your initial consultation. Dr. Coleman has spent an extensive amount of time analyzing these images in preparation for this appointment. Prior to reviewing the images, Dr. Coleman will go over your history again with you as well as explain the possible complications of surgical procedures. As you discuss your concerns and analyze your images, Dr. Coleman will map out a plan to use as a blue print for surgery. Once the plan has been completed, the patient care coordinator will review your procedure, fees and possible dates for you to schedule a procedure.
