Treatment of Biceps Muscle Tear with Coleman Fat Grafting
March 29th, 2012 lipostructure
Most often, people tear their biceps from a traumatic fall, during heavy weightlifting, or during sporting activities. Long-term impairment can include a significant decrease in strength when flexing the shoulder and elbow. It can also influence grip strength and certain movements of the forearm. Dr. Sydney Coleman has been treating biceps muscle tears for twenty years. Treatment with Coleman fat grafting not only restores the form of a biceps but also can help restore some strength.

The above patient experienced a right biceps tear four years ago. He was curling a free-weight when he had a pain in his biceps and noticed “bubbling” of his biceps. He had no treatment of the tear, and it gradually atrophied to leave a deformity (left photo above). One year after the second placement of structural fat into the biceps (right photo above and below), the patient returns delighted not only because of the normal appearance, but also because he feels that his strength has returned to the involved biceps.

The return of strength to the biceps is a remarkable phenomenon that is probably related to the repair possible with grafted fat. This is an area of regenerative medicine deserving the utmost attention and research. Dr. Coleman has also used Coleman fat grafts in pectoralis muscles, forearms, calves, and thighs.

Sydney Coleman starts Tweeting

In Anticipation of New Website, Syd Coleman Starts Tweeting
The completely renovated lipostructure.com website will be online by early February. In anticipation, I will begin tweeting from on a regular basis at Syd Coleman @lipostructure to inform people of the potential of LipoStructure® and advances in the use of stromal vascular fraction (SVF) and adipose derived stem cells.
LipoStructure® is the particular brand of fat grafting developed by me in the late 1980’s and now used worldwide. As fat grafting has become more popular, people have noted that the fat does more than fill; it can repair and rejuvenate the tissues into which it is placed.
Recent scientific studies have determined that fat tissue has the highest concentration of stem cells of any tissue in the body. These “stem cells” appear to repair damage in our bodies. I have seen improvement in skin quality and scarring in my own patients over the last two decades.
Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) is the name for fat tissue with the fat cells removed. The SVF is composed of a very high concentration of stem cells. Research is ongoing to determine the benefits of SVF in treating a variety of conditions seen in plastic surgery and many other medical specialties.

Male Chest Pectoral Muscle Enhancement with Fat Grafting
January 9th, 2012 Dr. Coleman
While fat grafting to the female breast has been growing in popularity, chest enhancement with fat grafting is available to men as well.
Before Dr. Coleman ever placed fat into the breast of women in 1995, he performed successful fat transplants to the male chest to enhance shape and size of the pectoralis muscle. These procedures were usually performed on men who were already muscular through weight training and diet, but had reached a plateau. Not only can fat grafting to the pectoral muscle increase chest size, it can also improve definition of the inner and lower lines of the chest.
The donor fat is usually harvested from the patient’s lovehandles, flanks or abdomen and is transplanted to the chest muscles. Most people can return to work in a few days, and return to their gym routine between one and two weeks after surgery. The patient will like the way they look a few days after the procedure, the bruising and swelling takes months to completely resolve.

This 29-year-old man (left) presents for enhancement of his chest, both enlargement and increased definition. He had considered the use of silicone implants, but felt that they gave fullness but not definition. One year after one fat grafting to the medial chest and lower chest he returned delighted with the enlargement and defined shape of his chest.
Fat Grafting can also be performed to the male chest to repair muscle tears and create a healthier appearance.
